Prayer of Self Acceptance

Father,

We greet the new day with love in our hearts. “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” (1 John) As we come to that moment that we must overcome, where we must deal with reasons that say we are not worthy of being loved by you. Feeling that we still need to fix something in ourselves, in order to be worth your love, is an illusion. You love us as we are, perfect in your eyes. If we can summon our faith, Father, without holding back, and commit to knowing that we are fully loved by you, then we can fully accept ourselves as you accept us. We can accept all the parts that we discarded, things we’re not proud of and forgive ourselves completely, so that we can be whole again.

By surrendering to complete trust that you love us, we are declaring that we are worthy of your Love. “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isaiah) Let each and every one of us, know ourselves as your children, divine in all aspects and beautiful in your eyes. With that, Father, we know that you gave us this spirit, not to suffer and die, but to live amply, as 2 Timothy tells us, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

In this way, we can trust our inner knowing that you love us, and everything is going to work out, and surrender to the faith that nothing can stop the best from happening, and it begins now. Bless our day, may it be filled with balance and harmony, as we gain even more ground for the Light. May we bring peace to the forefront. May this day be blessed with Angelic reassurance and extraordinary happenstances. May we all rise to new levels that we never thought possible.

Let it be so,

In faith and trust in your Love,

Amen.

Prayer of the Light-Bearer

Father we thank you for the gift of this time. Life is a miracle right now. While we are distracted by all the things in our news, the fabric of our world is changing for the better, by your hand, according to your Divine Will. Because we have hope, because we have faith, we stand by the river of your ever-presence, Father, and we can weather any storm. Because you are telling us, that this storm, is actually a rebirth. “You lift me up to the wind and cause me to ride; And You dissolve me in a storm. (Job 30)

In order to go through a process of rebirth, we have to exfoliate layers of old stuff that we don’t need, and are blocking us from true growth. And we know that can be shocking and startling. We realize, Father, that we don’t always have to have a strong reaction to situations that trigger us. If we can stay calm and muster the kind of higher thinking that comes from our heart, we work with what those triggers are bringing up in us, notice those thoughts and feelings, and call you and your healing Angels in, Father, to carry us through the process of redemption, rebirth and renewal. We know there is always hidden wisdom to gain when we choose to walk the higher road with you, Father. “I would hasten to my place of refuge from the stormy wind and tempest.” (Psalm 55)

We ask for blessings of heartfelt wisdom to sustain us, for your light to be our sustenance, for the steady guidance of your gentle hand through the storm right now, Father. May we reach inside to where you reside within us, because we are now going beyond our mind and connecting directly with you Father, and know you will never leave us, nor forsake us. You are our Light and our comforter, and we are your light-bearers in an ever-changing world.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

Prayer of Transformation

Father,

As we contemplate this time of transformation, we are motivated to embark on the journey that changes our frustrated heart into the gentle and humble heart. We turn to you Father, opening up with the ultimate trust and even though we may feel vulnerable, we surrender all our cares, all our troubles, and all our struggles, to you. This powerful experience is a shift to an elevated way of being, as your heart becomes one with ours, beating with an everlasting love.

We apply the discipline of resisting the fall into frustration and struggle, and we consciously choose to stay afloat to “Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you.” (Hosea 10:12) We open ourselves, with trust in you Father, for the transformation of surrendering our anxious heart to you and allowing it to become the gentle and humble heart of one kept aloft by your grace.

Allow us to be fed by your light, giving us real strength and a love that fills us completely to the depths of our heart. Bless our minds to stay in your everpresent light, bless our hands to show your love in all our work, bless our feet so that we may trod Mother Earth with care, bless us today with small miracles that grow into a very large and beautiful transformation of amazing reappropriation.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen

Prayer of Renewal

Father,

We come to you this morning with an open heart. How many times have we asked what you would like us to do in order to focus our day’s efforts? Today you would like us to go on a search within. To find within ourselves the spring from which the effervescent fountain of life flows. It says in John 4:14 “but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” We reach inward and turn on the faucet of that spring, allowing it to flow through us like a fountain, then overflow and spill outward to others.

Today we ask that you bless our uniqueness, Father, that you show us how our quirks are actually superpowers, so that we may accept ourselves as you see us. Your love envelopes us completely in your arms. We know that if we can let go of all harshness toward ourselves, that you will pick us up and dust off our wings and set us soaring again.

So as we turn on our light within, the glow burns away anything that does not belong in our bodies, cleansing us, then radiates outward. 2Peter bids us to “pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.” So we will place our attention where it needs to go, and we will light up the dark with understanding and compassion, and then we will act to make our world a better place, worthy of our wings, which you have unfurled on this day Father.

Bless us, our loved ones, our teams and tribes. Lift us all up in your mighty hand so that we may surpass all limitations on this day. May we rise together on the wings that your touch has animated, never may we falter, confident in our steps. Bless our hands so that they may be of good use. May they never tire, or produce lack of any kind. Bless our words so they may impart messages of sweetness that curls untruths and renders lies useless. May we shine brightly in the face of darkness today and every day, strengthened by your might.

Amen.

Let it be so.

God is Victory.

Prayer of Divine Service

As we open our eyes to this day, we search for the inner spark that is you, Father in order to connect with you, our home. That lifeline to your majesty begins our day in perfect and powerful ways. Open our hearts to the vitality that spurs us onward today, Father, so that we may drink-in the elixir of life that rejuvenates and inspires. Let this be a day of divine sanctification that cleanses and purifies our distress, because we know that we have cultivated a ceaseless faith born of suffering that scuttles despair.

Allow us to walk our path today in peace and joy that allows us to deal with anything and everything we come upon, with lightness and speed. Although we may remain duty bound, allow us to feel a freedom in our Soul that enables us to outplay all expectation and defy all limits. May we learn to stay humble while doing so Father, and always remember that we do what we do, in service to you and to our fellow travelers, our family of Souls. As in the reminder, “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.” (Romans)

Thank you for our gifts, Father. The skills and abilities we use to do our honest work. To strive to make our mark on this ever-changing world. May we always feel your light on our face so we may let your love flow through our hands. Set our task using the compass of Your Will. Because we know from 1Peter, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:”

Special blessings for all the team, Father, and our loved ones.

In loving service,

Amen.

So be it.

Prayer of Self Mastery

Father,

We greet this day, fully taking-in the blessing of your light. My your love permeate all of our layers and fill us to full capacity, giving us strength, illuminating wisdom, casting out shadows and igniting our words. We invite you into all of our interactions today. May they be enriched and enlivened with your holy light. As we step forward in the battle of these days, we are fortified by your will, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians)

Today we invite you into our vision Father, so that we may see ourselves in a new way. To forgive and accept every bit of ourselves because we know you love us to the very core of our being. “So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians) We realize, Father, that if you love us so completely, no matter what state we’re in, then we can love, forgive and accept ourselves too.

As we prepare ourselves for the battle of this day, we know the first step in defeating the darkness begins with mastering ourselves so that we may walk anywhere unencumbered, with our light intact. Just as it says in Psalm 84 “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.” And so we shall. Touch us oh Lord and cast out any doubt, any fear, any sense of unworthiness, because we know that one breath from you corrects and restores entire worlds.

Let our lives today be filled with the promise of new life and a better world.

Let it be so,

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen.

5th Generation Warfare (5GW)

I’ve been reading about 5th Generation Warfare, or 5GW lately. It’s a topic of interest because it seems like something that is taking place in our world now. The book that I’m reading talks about an “unseen hand” controlling the populace by making small, controlled groups look like the majority by suppressing the speech of the real majority. Shadow-banning, deplatforming, canceling and bot attacks. People are also controlled by confirmation bias leading them to believe that their beliefs are the only beliefs that matter. Then they weaponize the battlespace of the mind by making topics relevant that will polarize groups. One group will have the righteous position and the other is seen as illegitimate or unrighteous. Methods used are:

-Discreetly manipulate minority group making them vocal and thinking they are the majority.

-Leverage messaging to develop an in-group/our-group dynamic.

-Keep influencing both groups and encourage demonization of the other group’s viewpoints.

This is then psyopped by reinforcing the in-group’s values and motivations through artificial news reports and social media sharing. The in-group’s feedback loop is therefore an echo-chamber of their own thinking, which messes up decision making because there is no outside-the-box thinking. The other group, the out-group, gets a feedback loop that is filled with doubt. The out-group is silenced in secret and publicly demonized to try to keep them from mobilizing as the majority they are.

In a 5GW Psyop campaign, everything is weaponized until something better can be weaponized. It is non-kinetic, irregular hybrid warfare, however, it can have kinetic effects inducing groups to riot. We can undercut this weaponization by protecting our minds. We protect our minds by controlling our emotions. I think it’s important to state here, not to suppress emotions, but to be in control of them, to regulate them. How do we do that?

1. When we feel ourselves getting triggered, before letting it affect our thinking, we can ask ourselves some questions.

  • What am I feeling right now?
  • What happened to make me feel this way?
  • Does the situation have a different explanation that might make sense?
  • What do I want to do about these feelings?
  • Is there a better way of coping with them?

2. Keep a daily journal and write about the mood we are in. This helps to bring our moods and emotions into conscious awareness so that we can regulate it.

3. Breathe. Try this:

  • Take a deep breath
  • Hold it for a count of 5
  • Release

4. Use a Mantra- Something like: I am calm, I am relaxed, I am strong yet flexible.

5. Express or release your emotions in a safe and controlled way. Being mindful of your surroundings and the situation can help you learn when it’s OK to let feelings out and when you might want to sit with them for the moment.

6. Use Stress Management Techniques- Exercise, take a walk outside, meditation, massage, work on a hobby.

One of the chapters in the book I’m reading is entitled, The Flies Must Conquer the Flypaper, it’s telling us to manage our own psychological susceptibilities that make us vulnerable to unseen manipulation. Instead of automatically accepting what is given to us, I think that takes raising the level of mindfulness to consciously consider what is really being given and do we really want it. On the 5GW battlefield, techniques used to manipulate people are:

-the use of stereotypes in wording in order to elicit an emotional response.

-loaded language and/or selective information.

-wording with negative connotations and being vague.

All this is designed to bring up an emotional response. If we recognize that this is happening, we can disconnect our emotions on our end, and stop ourselves before becoming emotionally invested. When we get emotionally invested, then polarized thinking takes hold of our psyche. If we can stop it before that happens, then we are conquering the flypaper.

Developing a mental toughness is a necessity. We maintain control of our lives by thoroughly researching something before making a decision from a) people you know who are sensible, b) public libraries and c) internet (watching out for manipulation.) But the best way to stop emotional investment and short-circuit polarized thinking is through the use of critical thinking.

The use of critical thinking involves:

  • Drawing knowledge from experience in conjunction with the application of logic and reasoning
  • It involves examining beliefs or any form of knowledge in light of any evidence that supports any conclusions drawn
  • Recognizing problems and finding workable solutions
  • Gathering pertinent information, recognize assumptions
  • Comprehending information and interpreting data with clarity and accuracy
  • To evaluate arguments and test conclusions and generalizations
  • To be able to reconstruct one’s beliefs based on a wider range of experience
  • To make accurate judgments about specific things and qualities in everyday life

Critical thinking is self-directive, self-corrective. It works in the gray area of a subject rather than the black and white dichotomy of polarized thinking. By using facts and data, logic and reason, emotions remain in a healthy place and do not affect our ability to consider the whole picture from all angles. 5th Generation Warfare (5GW) uses the narrative as the weapon, in the battlefield of our minds, trying to control how we see, think and feel in order for us to give over our trust and not think for ourselves.

Resiliency Prayer

Resiliency Prayer

Father,

As we step forward into a new day, we realize it is because of you that we have this opportunity to make a difference. It may have been the most difficult of journeys, watching others fall along the way, but we are reminded in Proverbs to “Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways,” and we will.

We thank you Father, for this opportunity to stand together against the darkness, to leave our mark on our world as we carve it and shape it in the name of your love. Galatians reminds us “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” And we will not give up.

Though the path be difficult, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us” (Romans) We will press onward as a testament to the resiliency of the human spirit in service to you, Father.

Let it be so.

So be it. Amen

When the whole world is running towards a cliff, he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind.

CS Lewis, Author

Every spiritual advance that we make is preceded by a fall of some kind. It is when we are at some type of lowpoint in our life that we generate a type of energy that propels us upward and outward. All the illusions of the old systems that we thought were our world are self-destructing in front of our eyes. It’s like God is pulling the tablecloth revealing what isn’t real in our world. That can throw some into a cognitive dissonance decline and depression. The tendency is to curl up in a ball. Why am I being so morose? Because we must press onward. We cannot stop and become stagnant. We must be resilient.

Resiliency comes in many forms. It is the bounce that we make after a sweeping away of something that no longer belonged in our world. Dr. Wayne Dyer told us, “The idea that the way you were going to come out of this crisis is by just getting more credit or just spending, spending, spending. There’s really no such thing as an economy. You can’t find an economy any more than you can find strep. It’s so intertwined with every single thing that we do. So, this entire economy idea that we’re all in the sheer state of collapse because of some terrible thing that’s happening in an economy is the stuff that everybody is buying into and being afraid of. I think it’s a cleansing process. I think we’re cleaning out some of the sediment. Forest fires do that. Tsunamis do that. Nature does that. All those bad loans and bad stuff, there is something positive about it.”

M-W give the definition of resiliency as:

  1. The ability of something to return to its original size and shape after being compressed or deformed
  2. An ability to recover from or adjust easily to adversity or change RESILIENCE

As we embrace the all important ability to overcome challenges and face life’s inevitable difficulties, we develop the ability to bounce back. We can move forward as if our life has been strengthened as stronger, smarter human beings with more self-esteem than we imagined. Seeing ourselves as survivors and being emotionally grounded with a sense of fortitude is an attribute of resilience. It requires a sense of compassion for oneself, and a centeredness that can adapt to circumstances as they come, utilizing self-assessment and problem-solving skills.

If I could offer one key to resilience, it would be to always, always, always choose the positive viewpoint. Yes we can look at what is dark, but from a position of staying in the light. Almost like we are grounded on solid rock in a heavy storm. If we determine ourselves to elicit the emotional intelligence to manage our emotions, we can always gain ground even if we get blown off course.

Being resilient offers benefit not only in the short term, but we will be better off in the long run. Life does throw setbacks our way. It is how we choose to deal with those changes that determines whether we lose ground or not. Are we using unhealthy coping mechanisms? If so, can we change that? It would make a big difference in our lives and we would be freed up to move forward with passion. Pretty soon we are tackling problems head-on and pulling up the strength to overcome adversity and move on with our lives to make them even better.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT) identifies distorted patterns of thinking, emotional response, inappropriate behavior and substituting them with more objective, realistic thoughts and coping skills. It can address challenges such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Mood Disorders
  • Eating Disorders
  • Schizophrenia
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Social Anxiety Disorder
  • Panic Disorder
  • Generalized Anxiety
  • Specific Phobia
  • OCD
  • Dysthymia
  • Substance Abuse
  • ADHD
  • Stress
  • Relationship Difficulties
  • Anger

CBT Steps:

Identifying Negative Thoughts- To learn what thoughts, feelings and situations are contributing to maladaptive behaviors. It can be difficult for people who have trouble with self assessment and insights into what their negative self limiting thoughts.

Practicing New Skills- In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, people are taught new skills to use in real life situations to improve experiences and demonstrate empowerment in a situation. To practice coping skills and rehearse ways to avoid or deal with social situations that could trigger a reaction.

Setting New Goals- Goal setting can be an important step to establish forward momentum and to use newly polished interpersonal and coping skills. A CBT therapist can help set SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-based) with a focus on the process of attaining the goal.

Problem Solving- Learning problem-solving skills during CBT helps to identify and work to solve a problem resulting from life stressors. Being adept at solving problems can reduce harmful impact of psychological and physical illness. Problem Solving steps are:

  1. Identify the problem
  2. Generate a list of potential solutions
  3. Evaluate the pros and cons of each possible solution
  4. Choose a solution
  5. Follow through with the solution

Self-Monitoring- Tracking behaviors, symptoms, or experiences over time and sharing them with someone to whom you are being accountable.

Other CBT Techniques- Journaling, role-playing, relaxation strategies and using mental distractions.

Benefits of CBT:

  • Healthier thought patterns
  • Potential short-term improvements
  • Effective for a wide variety of problems
  • Online or face to face
  • Doesn’t require medication

Challenges to CBT

Change can be difficult and uncomfortable while going through it. CBT is very structured and some people may not do well in heavily structured programs. For CBT to be effective, it will take an investment of time and effort on the patient’s part. A willingness to put out the effort and to be honest in the analyzation of ones thoughts and feelings. Progress can be gradual, and may not be for someone wanting immediate results. Change takes time.

Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT is a treatment approach in helping mostly children and adolescents process and overcome their experiences of trauma. One of the ways a trauma survivor heals is to help them normalize their responses. TF-CBT can give them new skills to manage their feelings while educating them why they respond the way they do around the traumatic memories. By understanding the effects of trauma, they are better equipped to cope and find practical solutions. When someone with PTSD feels stuck in some of their thoughts because of the trauma they underwent TF-CBT can assist a person to recognize false beliefs they hold because of the trauma and to correct unhealthy behavior patterns that allows forward growth and momentum. It helps them develop new ways to cope, through self care, self healing and choosing emotional expression in healthy ways. In TF-CBT, parents and caregivers can also be involved in the therapy. This supports parents in building skills related to better parenting, improving communication, and managing any distress about the child’s trauma, all of which help the child feel more supported. The child is able to disconnect the memories and thoughts of the traumatic experience with the overwhelming emotions which arise by association.

Summing Up

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT can be an effective way to correct unhealthy habits and emotional responses and inappropriate behaviors. The changeover to productive empowered living involves practicing new skills, setting new goals and learning problem solving techniques. Progress is tracked using self monitoring and measurable results. Trauma Focused CBT or TF-CBT is mostly used for children and teenagers who have experienced one trauma event or repeated abuse. It has been successful in helping the young person disconnect their thoughts and emotions from the trauma event.

Being a Holiday Survivor

I stopped at the grocery store to pick up a couple things. I could already see it. The holiday crunch has started. The mothers and grandmothers struggling to think of everything on the lists that they forgot and left at home, the families toting excited children with magic sparkling in their eyes, husbands and single men dodging through crowds because they just want to get what they need and get home. Then something caught my attention. It was a young man obviously disgusted with all the holiday craziness, shaking his head and muttering to himself. I recognized it from experience. My son and PTSD. Looking at it all now from his perspective, it must look like everyone has gone crazy taking pills from a Hallmark Store.

I definitely used to chase that happy dream of creating the perfect holiday season for everyone. Sometimes I wish I still bought into it, but I’ve lost too many. We all have. There’s too many people hurting going into these holidays and I want them to know, it’s okay to do the holidays differently this year if it feels needed.

Those who have experienced trauma have a unique perspective. From my experience, they are more in touch with their hearts and feelings than the average person because they have to be in order to manage and get through the day. Oh yes, there are varying degrees of that, of course, but show me someone who has survived trauma, and I will show you someone who has courageously stared down darkness from deep inside and is a survivor!

I may be saying it in a really clumsy way, but I just want to express that whatever peace and contentment you can find during these holidays, whatever that means for you, I salute you. If you are missing loved ones and just can’t seem to get on track, visit this post Doing Grief Differently by my friend, Sara Kujawa.

If you are in charge of family get togethers and are a little anxious because someone is attending with anxiety, PTSD or depression, or any of those other labels, my sincere suggestion is to avoid creating anxiety over it and just accept them for however they are and wherever they’re at in life. Just love them. Let them know you are just glad they are part of the family.

Here is a previous blogpost from a few years ago with some tips and tools for surviving the holidays.

My friend, who I’m just going to call E wrote this beautiful message and with permission I’m going to share here because I think it needs to be heard and taken to heart. (Thank you my friend<3)

The road we walk is shaped not only by the future we seek and the present we stand in, but by the lives that have touched us along the way.

Many of those lives do not make it to the destiny they were seeking, and so it falls to us; those still living, to keep breathing and keep fighting no matter what. To never let the memory of those who came before us die in vain.

We fight with a purpose that shall never surrender, that will never accept defeat. For we fight, not for glory, or for victory, but for the sake of those we love. To protect them and their futures. To safeguard them here and now.

Our purpose will never be swayed, it is written on the hearts of every man woman and child. We are one humanity and one world, and it is a World worth protecting.

Do not forget those who fall along the way, but rather, burn all the brighter on their behalf.
