Making Decisions

Trust your gut.  Trust your heart.  Do the next right thing.

I heard that last one from my husband when we first met.  It has been his rule for figuring out what to do next many years and has served him well.  Being a straightforward man, he takes the straightforward approach:

  1. Make sure you understand your choices. Gather information about them.
  2. Weigh the pros and cons of each choice. (How much does it cost, how long will it take, what are the potential consequences/benefits)
  3. Consider whether the benefits outweigh the potential consequences for each choice.
  4. Make the best moral decision available.
  5. Get calm. Wait a day. Ask God and your Higher Self to tell you which direction to head.
  6. Go like hell at it.
  7. Only alter the course if you hit continuous roadblocks.

He is a great decision maker, but is an even better decision maker with the help of my feminine intuitive.  A balanced male decisive – female intuitive approach works best for us.  My method goes like this… First, I try to align myself with love and the highest good of all involved.  I sit and “feel” through each choice and pick the one with the most light and the least entanglements or resistance.  I feel for the highest vibrational path available at that present moment in time.  I can usually feel if some new choice will open up, with time, that will be the best way, and only need to be patient and wait for the signs.

But what if we are following the above steps and are getting stuck around steps 2 or 3?  Our heads are beginning to spin with the emotions and potential problems and anxiety is setting in.  Elisa Romeo, in her article, How Your Soul Can Help You Make Tough Decisions explains, “First, you set the intention to connect to your Soul truth; then ask yourself this magical question: ‘If I pretended to know, what would I know?’  This simple but powerful prompt allows the analytical mind to take a break and allow the higher information from Soul to penetrate through.”  She adds, “Clients are often shocked by their newfound clarity when they allow themselves to pretend to know their own answers.”

The benefit of accessing the wisdom of our inner self to find the best decision is that it takes our busy worrying thoughts and ego mind out of the equation, to see things clearly.  Since we are now able to create our experiences, we are creating a new higher reality by dis-allowing our own conscious thoughts to go to an undesirable behavior/ experience.  Our thoughts and emotions have power, so the less time we spend circling round and round in worry and “what ifs”, the clearer our energy field gets.  When we do the work to disconnect our “buttons” pushed by certain people and situations, we can streamline our decision making process.  By the Law of Attraction, the clearer we are, the more efficiently we will attract the best solution to us.  If we look for the good in all things, including the worst things, we will attract better and better solutions to us.  Dr. Wayne, in his blogpost, Trust Your Inner Self, stated “Be yourself, respect yourself, and create a harmonious relationship between the integrity of your own mind and your daily conduct. See the unfolding of God in everyone and in all life. Know that all are equal in the invisible realm of the spirit.”

One last personal tip I have is, put the problem down temporarily and do a non-strenuous activity.  Give it a break.  Don’t think about the problem at all.  Do something else for an hour or so.  You can walk, do dishes, run the vacuum cleaner, sweep the garage… anything… but, very important… hum or whistle while you do it.  Get a little tuneful music going while your work and get into the flow of it.  What you are doing is getting your personal energy flowing.  You are moving things through your auric field, your brain cells, your muscles, everything.  Then, when you are finished, sit down catch your breath, and take an overview look at the situation.  Trust your first impression or instinct.  It is usually the one coming from your higher self.  It is the key.  Take this information into account when reappointing yourself to the task of choosing which fork in your path ahead to take.

Finally, when you make a decision, make it with Love.  That Love energy has power.  If you have the courage to try decision making this way, you can act and communicate in harmony with the creative energy of Source, and that, my dear friends, is where the magic happens.
