Week 19 rode in on strong momentum and just kept on building stronger. While honoring our men and women bravely serving our country, we renewed our confidence in our tenacity to rise above and overcome all odds. Grocery prices saw their largest drop in over 5 years, with the lowest inflation in that same span. Gas prices fell for the third straight month, the trade deficit has already been cut in half and consumer confidence is at an all time high. America is getting stronger, we are a shining nation of possibility again, and our hope is rising.

Cut 83% of USAID programs, including $2 million for sex changes and LBGT activism in Guatemala and $6 million for tourism in Egypt.
The remaining programs were absorbed by the State Department.
Terminated a $23.5k USAID contract for the “garden landscaping and pool services at official mission director’s residence” of South Africa.”

Department of Justice (DOJ)

Announced the termination of millions of dollars in wasteful grants, including $2 million for “national listening sessions of individuals with lived experience,” $695,000 for “a parallel convergent mixed-methods case study research design to assess the efficacy of police departments’ LGBTQ liaison services,” and $250,000 for “working with incarcerated transgender individuals providing gender affirming care to including housing in gender appropriate facilities.”

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Shut down a Biden administration EPA museum that, despite costing $4 million to build and an additional $600,000 in annual operational costs, saw less than 2,000 external visitors in almost an entire year.
Discovered a $2 billion Biden administration grant for a Stacey Abrams-linked green group that was founded only months earlier and had reported just $100 in total revenue during its first three months in operation.
Plans to cancel nearly 800 environmental justice grants doled out by the Biden administration.

National Science Foundation (NSF)

Cancelled $233 million in DEI grants, including $1 million for “Antiracist Teacher Leadership for Statewide Transformation.”

Placed nearly 60 employees who had been solely focused on DEI on paid administrative leave and dismissed more than 1400 probationary employees, while also identifying grants for DEI-related trainings, materials and other consulting services worth more than $6.1 million.
Announced it would phase out funding for sex-change treatments.

Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI)

Terminated $420 million in unneeded contracts.
Cancelled Politico subscriptions which amounted to $500k.

Office of Management and Budget (OMB)

The Washington Post reported President Trump instructed OMB to initiate efforts to shrink its workforce.

Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)

Fired an undisclosed number of junior officers in March.
Offered buyouts in February to some employees with an undisclosed number of acceptances.
The Washington Post reported about 80 persons had been let go as of March.
Musk visited the CIA on April 1 to meet with CIA Director Ratcliffe to discuss government efficiency cuts.
A federal judge blocked the CIA from firing DEI staffers in March.

Department of Commerce (DOC)

Announced a combined $145 million in DEIA contract cancellations between Labor, Transportation, Agriculture, Commerce, HHS, and Treasury departments.
Announced a combined ~$1 billion in cost savings from eliminating contracts at various agencies including Commerce.
Seeks to cut 20 percent of its staff without using layoffs, amounting to 10,000 employees.
1,600 employees took a ‘deferred resignation’ option while 850 probationary employees were fired.

Canceled unused phone lines at OPM, saving $100k annually.

National Endowment for the Humanities

Canceled National Endowment for the Humanities grants, including $350k for interactive gay travel guides to better understand historical LGBTQ+ spaces, $350k to create a Spanish version of http://Homosauras.org, $247k to digitize stories of transgender adults in the Pacific Northwest, $75k to examine the relationship between internet live streaming and LGBTQ+ communities, $60k to research how LGBTQ+ cartoonists innovated comics in the 1980s & 1990s, and $150k for excavation of Egypt’s first industrial-scale brewery, saving $163 million.

United States Postal Service (USPS)

Canceled or modified 1,076 USPS contracts, saving $188.5 million.

The History of Tariffs

Here is a great article explaining the history of tariffs and how they have been used since the beginning of our country. “When Alexander Hamilton became the nation’s first Secretary of the Treasury, he immediately began to prepare a schedule of tariffs, along with excise taxes on such commodities as alcohol and tobacco. The Constitution forbids taxing the exports of any state, and so American tariffs have always been laid only on imports.

Collectors were named for each port, and these were considered plum jobs because the collector got to keep the money, earning interest on it, until it was forwarded to the federal government a few times a year.

Hamilton’s tariffs, along with the refunding of the national debt and the establishment of a central bank, transformed the American financial situation. By the end of the 1790s, the U.S. had the best credit rating in Europe, its bonds selling over par. By 1800, federal revenues, a mere $3.7 million in 1792, had nearly tripled to $10.8 million. About 90 percent of that revenue came from tariffs—a ratio that wouldn’t change much, except during the Civil War, for more than a century.”

Please call your Representatives and ask them to support ICE’s efforts to remove these criminal traffickers and to prioritize protecting our children. Call and ask your Reps to get involved to enact and support strong anti-trafficking legislation. Have them cooperate with federal efforts to apprehend and deport all criminal gang and cartel traffickers.
