Liberty and Lighthouses

Before moving forward into the latter part of summer, now that we in America just had our long 4th of July holiday weekend, I wonder if we could take a moment and reflect. This is a very tense time in America, as well as the world. I don’t need to describe it, we know it and feel it. We are all doing our part to survive and cope. We hope for the best.

What I want to ponder, before we let another Independence Day sink into history, is what could we have done to make it a marker of true positive change? I mean, there are more of us than there are of them, right? What do we need to do to enact real improvement in our world? Most of us are making a difference, are we ready to self-organize, collaborate and coordinate? That’s what the people who brought that first change to our country had to do.

Here is a video of a reading of the Declaration of Independence read by President John F. Kennedy. It’s a little over 10 minutes long. I’m going to ask you to take a listen to what they went through back then and think about what is different from what we are going through right now. Video here https://youtu.be/kHAksb4gSIM.

Liberty means the freedom to pursue your personal happiness. Our founding fathers felt it is our birthright given to us by God. The fight for liberty requires the ability to stand one’s ground and make it clear that no man can take that right away from us. But if the ground we stand on is being claimed by tyrants, and we are being pushed backward, what needs to happen to be able to stand on our own ground and say a firm NO? This literally just happened to me in my own kitchen. I stood my ground, got loud and said No as firmly a possible. I pushed back and I made it clear. Now what?

The Lightworker approach would be to send love and light into the situation. I’ve definitely been doing my best to be love and shine brightly under uncommon pressure. Like a diamond being formed by compression, I am more aware of who I truly am. All that is left of what I am not, is being burned away by the cleansing fire that presents itself in my life right now. I believe this is called Trial by Fire.

Our growing awareness asks us, what can we do that we were told we cannot do? If we are being told by someone (such as our news) that there is a divide separating us, how can we make a difference to others? The Light says the answer is to love them. To be a Lighthouse standing alone on the rock, unshaken, knowing who we are and shining love. Perhaps even toward our enemies. Lighthouses are almost always used in the dark. They illuminate the truth of a situation and they signal where there is safe passage. As a metaphor, the Light is used by others to see and navigate their lives better, so that the next time they are out at sea, they will look for more lighthouses and know how to use them. I send complete love and gratitude to all the lighthouses in my life, present day, past and future.

When is it your moment to shine into the darkness? As my best friend Dorothy told me, Love is an action word. With so much fog and fear in our world, our moment has come, to shine. The fight for liberty continues on after the holiday ends… to be Light in action, standing our ground, illuminating truth and shining into darkness. As our numbers grow, our Light intensifies. We can be soldiers firmly saying NO, fighting for liberty and freedom, and at the same time, we can be lighthouses shining for the scared and confused, showing them where there is love, safety and clarity.
