Treating Allergies Naturally

History of Allergies

Though allergic reactions have been documented in ancient Greek and Roman history, the modern era of the study of allergies really began in the early 1800’s when hay fever was described by a doctor in his journal notes. This continues to be one of the most common allergic reactions, affecting approximately 15 million people in the United States today. The first skin test for allergies was performed in 1869 when a scientist placed pollen into a small cut in the skin and observed the reaction. The concept of immunotherapy, which is building up the immune system through the administration of injections to help people cope with their allergies, was introduced in 1914. Antihistamines became more widely used in the late 1930’s. They helped by lessening the body’s reaction to allergens. Corticosteroids that reduced inflammation caused by allergens started being used to treat asthma and allergic reactions in 1948. A discovery in 1953 and another in 1963 identified the mast cells and antibodies that causes a chain reaction leading to the release of histamine and allergic reactions. Professor Bengt Samuelson won the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology in 1982 for his study of leukotrines which incite the inflammatory responses causing asthma.

Typical Methods

Antihistamine Drugs that block histamine receptors thereby reducing symptoms. The problem is they do not address the cause.

Decongestants reduce swelling and inflammation of nasal passages causing congestion by constricting blood vessels in the area. The problem is that there can be significant side effects that can affect heartbeat, breathing and nervous system. A better natural alternative is the herb Ephedra.

Corticosteroidsare synthetic derivatives of adrenal glad hormones cortisone and cortisol. These also can have serious side effects.

Immunotherapy/ Allergy Shots are intended to desensitize the body and are normally taken weekly. Complications may arise when the shot actually causes increased allergic reactions. Side effects can be severe such as anaphylactic shock.

Elimination diets such as dairy-free or gluten-free manage food allergies by avoiding the cause.

Some Natural Ways to Alleviate Allergies

Cut down on sugar and high fructose corn syrup. Sugar can throw off the microbial balance in the gut, can cause mucus to form and throws off the immune system. The herb Stevia Rebaudiana is a much better alternative.

Eat more dark red and purple foods that contain anthocynanins. These include beets, berries, cherries and grapes. Anthocynanins have been found to have an anti-allergic effect by inhibiting the action of mast cells that trigger histimines.

The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of Curcumin which is in Turmeric can help decrease the inflammation associated with allergies.

Hesperetin and hesperidin are potent phytonutrients that have antihistamine, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. They are found in green leafy vegetables and citrus.

Quercitin is a natural antihistamine that doesn’t have the side effects of the drug versions. It can be found in apples, blueberries, chives, cocoa powder, cranberries, onions and tarragon among many others. Also the herbs milk thistle, St. John’s wort, hops, valerian, licorice, elder, chamomile and gingko.

Local raw honey is made from the pollen that when taken internally, has shown in studies to have marked improvement in symptoms and the number of days affected by allergies.

Lemons contain rutin as well as hesperetin, which alleviates eye discomfort, including from allergies. The vitamin C, citric acid, flavonoids, and B-complex vitamins also assist in subduing allergy symptoms.

Nettles have been proven to reduce inflammation linked to allergies as well as seasonal allergy symptoms. They can be taken by capsule or steeped in a tea or added to soups or stews.

Eat organic to avoid pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and GMOs. They contain less neurotoxins, and contain more nutrients than commercially grown foods.

Sea buckthorn has been used for centuries by ancient Tibetans in the Himalayan Mountains and food and as medicine for breathing disorders and reducing inflammation.

Butterbur, also known as Petasites hybridus, is a shrub that has been used for pain, aches and fevers. It has been studied to show that it offers relief for allergy symptoms as well.

Herbs that aid the lungs: Coltsfoot, elecampane, ephedra, horehound, lobelia, licorice root, lungwort, marshmallow, mullien, pleurisy root.

Apple cider vinegar can help break up mucus and support drainage of the lymph glands. A splash of ACV in a glass of water.

Flush sinuses using a natural sea salt and distilled water in a netti pot. Proper dilution is 1/2 tsp per 8 oz of water or use one of the NeilMed system premeasured packets. Add a splash of colloidal silver if desired. Remember to keep mouth open while flushing to avoid over-pressurizing your nasal system.

Essential oils such as eucalyptus and frankincense in a diffuser will help clear nasal passages and soothe airways.

Be aware of the chemicals are being used to clean the home, also air fresheners and perfumes. Many may make allergies worse or be the cause of them. Air cleaners inside the home can make massive improvements.

Homeopathic Remedies work by signaling the body to overcome imbalances to return to balance.

The Gut-Allergy Association

Our digestive tract has a link to inflammation in the body. Becoming your own expert on the proper balance of probiotics can decrease allergies as well as many other aspects of your health. Fermented foods such as saurkraut, kimchi, kefir, miso and yogurt bring probiotics to the gut that help reduce and alleviate the symptoms of allergies. Enzymes are another important factor in quelling inflammation and promoting healing. The three types of enzymes are metabolic, digestive and food enzymes. The normal American diet does not contain enough enzymes it is important to replenish enzymes every day and eat more fermented foods. Serrapeptase is a natural enzyme that has been shown to aid asthma and allergies because it helps break down mucus. Papaya and pineapple have other enzymes that aid in breaking up mucus and alleviating allergy symptoms. An alkaline diet using foods such as garlic, lemons, greens, bone broth, coconut milk, almond butter and seeds, gluten-free flours and grains can help bring the body back into balance so it can fight off what it doesn’t need and be able to repair and restore itself.

True Healing

More than ever right now we need to be discussing natural ways to support ourselves and our families with holistic therapeutic care. Discussions about rules for masks, isolation and injections dominate official information channels. But what about preventive care or daily maintenance? We are being made to feel that anything other than corporate medicine is pseudoscience or voodoo. Our Mothers and Grandmothers knew things about healing with natural elements. They had little tricks up their sleeves for any ailment we had. We took it for granted because it worked. When I had a stuffy nose, My Mom brought out the jar of Vick’s and rubbed some on my feet and then put socks on before going to sleep for the night. Next morning, I was all clear.

I remember visiting my Grandmother and she showed me a plant that lived by the creek in her backyard. She called it Jewel Weed. She had me pluck a leaf and hold it under water upside down so I could see little bubbles all over that sparkled in the sun like gems, saying that’s how it got its name. This plant, she explained was good for soothing poison ivy itch, and showed me how to scrunch up the leaf and rub it on my skin. Boy, that little solution saved me grief over the years, and I taught it to my children.

When visiting a rain forest in Central America, our guide told us that there is a plant on this Earth to heal everything. He pointed out how this plant will make a headache go away, or that plant will help hair growth. Truthfully, I believe that God ‘s healing energy is in the plants and trees. It is in water and the algae that lives in the water. It’s in the energy of sunlight. It’s in the energy of the oxygen in the air.

So many things can be done to support the health of our bodies and avoid a health crisis. I thought I would list a few suggestions. Some of them I’ve mentioned before in this blog. I am not a doctor. These suggestions are for educational purposes , things you might want to look into. Please do your own research thoroughly, to determine if any of these is right for you. They may lead you to something else that helps. Other than whole herbs used in a tea or elixir, I’m not going to discuss supplements here. They are worth discussing, but I’ll leave that for another post.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy- is an oxygenator. Pathogens aren’t happy in oxygen rich environments. Be mindful of the different uses for different strengths. 3% can be put on skin, the largest organ of our body, to be absorbed and improve oxygen internally. Several drops of 12% in a vaporizer or nebulizer can help clean lungs. Many other uses.
Ozone Therapy- Ozonated water is made with an ozone generator and bubbler stone. Ozone water can be used to bring extra oxygen into the body. Gargling with Ozone Water can improve dental health. I read an article that dental offices may use ozone therapy for cavities and periodontal disease in the near future.
Colloidal Silver- A natural antibiotic. Use for wound healing, eyes, face, sinuses, ears, scalp & more. A few drops in a vaporizer or nebulizer can work wonders.
Herbal Immune System Support- Make a tea of organic Ginger and Lemon in a quart jar. Better yet, add some dried Red Chicona Bark.
Health Bomb: Still better yet, make a health bomb in a jelly jar of minced garlic clove, ginger, honey and lemon juice. Add hot water and stir. Let cool and drink the whole thing down whenever you feel a cold coming on. Video: https://youtu.be/v0NfZ_mDmJU
Homemade Herbal Antibiotic Extract- Made by steeping herbs and roots in organic or homemade wine for 6 weeks. Fill a jar with any or all of these (organic is best): Oregano, Rosemary, ground Horseradish, Ginger, hottest pepper you can find, Nasturtium flowers and leaves, Lemon, Thyme, Garlic, Echinacea roots and leaves, Sage, dried Cloves, Turmeric, Cinnamon, Lemongrass, Yarrow. After 6 weeks, strain all solids and decant the extract. The alcohol works as a preservative, but you can find non or low alcohol recipes. Take when needed, a shot glass at a time. Medicinal Mushroom Tea- Boil dried pieces of Chaga, Reishi, Lions Mane, Turkey Tail, Cordyceps, Shiitake, Maitake with some Plantan Leaves and seed stalks, for 2 hours. Add to coffee or tea. Add to pet’s dinner. Use in cooking.
CDS and MMS- Through the work of Dr. Andreas Kalcker and Jim Humble, Chlorine Dioxide Solution has been found, through clinical trials, to assist the body in eliminating pathogens. Both have instructions on how to make it at home and how to dilute it with distilled water to make MMS. Both give several protocols to use them in healing many issues and daily maintenance.
Homeopathy- Used for decades with tons of research, these remedies work on the principle of “like cures like.” The specific plant is diluted so much that only the energy of the plant remains. When taken internally, this sends a signal to the body to bump up it’s natural healing for that specific thing. Safe, cannot overdose, affordable.
Rife Frequency, Plasma and Scalar Energy Machines- These machines have been developed to send healing frequencies to the body to heal and detox. They can work through direct contact with the body like a tens unit, or by remote using a fingernail through the principle of Quantum Entanglement. This therapy is highly effective and truly magical.
Rife Audio Frequencies- Use this library of Rife Frequency audio files for healing. https://www.rifetherapies.com/rife-frequencies/
Healthier Water- One thing is for sure, we really don’t understand water. Water from our tap can be made healthier. One way is to make Structured Water, also known as the Fourth Phase of Water. Water has been found to be programmable, we can pray over it and send intention to become a healing tonic for our highest health. There are a number of other ways to make water healthier for us. https://youtu.be/Jd2tPtqSyNY
Fasting and Clean Eating- Much of our ailments can be from an over abundance of food. By giving our bodies a 24-72 hour cleanout period, we give it a rest that allows it to eliminate a buildup of toxins. Maintaining good hydration is essential through water and juices. Practice by going down to one meal a day first and work into it. Sometimes just a simple bowl of steamed organic white rice can help.
Parasite Cleanse- Yes, humans can and usually do have pesky parasites. There are many herbal ways to combat parasites and even a well-known anit-parasitic, the discovery of which won the Nobel Prize in 2015. Also natural anti-parasitic: Wormwood, Black Walnut, Pumpkin Seeds and Cloves.
Detox Baths- A good long soak in a tub allows the body to release toxins out into the water. Mix up equal parts baking soda, sea salt, epsom salts & borax powder. Add some to the bath and keep the rest handy for next time. Add therapeutic essential oils or colloidal silver.
Detox Heavy Metals- with Zeolite, Chlorella, Spirulina, Cilantro, Blueberries, Lemon, Garlic, Beets, Artichokes, Turmeric and Ginger.
Foot Detox Baths- Either with an Ionic Foot Bath or just with sea salt and healing herbs and oils. Toxins are drawn out the feet. You can prepare the bath with hot water and any of these: Sea Salt, Epsom Salt, Baking Soda, Apple Cider Vinegar, Essential Oils, Bentonite Clay, Hydrogen Peroxide or Ginger Powder. Foot Detox Baths can bring relief to tired feet and legs.
EMF Protection- We get hit constantly with electro-magnetic frequencies from electronics. EMFs can affect the body’s own energy field, the biofield, throwing it out of balance. Today we can find more kinds of EMF protection in the form of stickers, boxes, plates, organite and crystals. In my opinion, if you are near electronics for an extended period of time, including wifi, it’s worth having something. Another helpful ally is grounding sheets. They have a conductive metal woven into the sheet, such as silver and a wire that plugs into the grounding system in your home. I have tried them and like others, they help the body achieve a deep restful sleep.
Tuning Forks- They aren’t just for tuning pianos, they are sound balancing the human biofield. The human body is wired for sound sensitivity. Not just the auditory, but the pressure waves. A set of solfeggio tuning forks is not highly expensive. When a tuning fork is struck and placed around the body, the volume, pitch and timbre changes. When held there, it begins to smooth out, almost as it the tuning fork is pulling the disturbance in the biofield out and smooths it.
Bach Flower Remedies- I went into this in detail in my previous post. These 38 remedies (plus 1 combination formula), developed by Dr. Edward Bach have been used for decades. They can help with a myriad of emotional challenges, including stress, anger and depression. If you only try one, I would suggest Rescue Remedy.
EFT Tapping- Emotional Freedom Technique. EFT Tapping is sort of like accupuncture, but without the needles. When feeling stressed, angry, frustrated, upset… Find a chart of Accupressure points. Using your fingertips, you can tap, press or rub any of these points while thinking of the situation that is causing you unbalance. You can use it while thinking of a disease. Your fingertips are acting like an accupuncture needle and like traditional accupuncture, you should soon feel the tension reduce and subside.
Don’t let a corporation come between you and your body. You know your body and you know what works and what doesn’t. You know what it needs to heal itself and you know what it doesn’t like. Let’s bring back the gentle, comforting cures that our Mothers and Grandmother’s taught us. The ones our bodies responded to because they worked with the rhythm of our bodies and the life force energy of nature.
