Dr. Wayne said in his blog post about letting go ” Most stress in our lives results from hanging on to beliefs that keep us striving for more, because ego stubbornly believes we need it. When we make the shift away from attachment, the influence of our ego fades. We replace attachment with contentment. Chasing and striving—and then becoming attached to what we chased after—is a source of anxiety that feeds Ambition, but it won’t satisfy the need for Meaning at our soul level.”
My friend, Erik Medhus says in his Mom’s blog, “Letting go involves two things: One is the brain driven by the ego that keeps wanting to bring it up and look at it. [And two] Humans are naturally perfectionists, they want to over-analyze to understand what they could have done otherwise they feel that they have an incomplete answer……So, sometimes letting go and you can’t, means you don’t have all the information. But get this catch: Sometimes you can’t get all the info. You just can’t. That’s when you have to forgive and forget and say you’re just not meant to know. You’re totally on the right path, Mom. If you didn’t have your ego, then you wouldn’t have a hard time letting go, because it just wouldn’t be about you.”
Some of our most stubborn baggage is stubborn simply because we haven’t figured out all the “hows” and “whys” yet. Our egos want to find a way to make it feel right and find a way to BE right. Sometimes even if there is no possible way it can ever be made right. In this case, we just have to trust God and the Universe, and let it go. Dr. Wayne, in his book, The Power of Intention, gives us 7 steps for taming the ego.
- Stop being offended.
- Let go of your need to win.
- Let go of your need to be right.
- Let go of your need to be superior.
- Let go of your need to have more.
- Let go of identifying yourself on the basis of your achievements.
- Let go of your reputation.
Things are shifting. We are evolving rapidly. Many people are going through a crisis of self. It is more important than ever to let go of that which we cannot afford to keep carrying, so that we can step into the shoes of our divine selves. Time has run out for the excuses we use to hang onto our problems and it is time to release them and move forward.
