We took a ride from Quartzsite into the beautiful desert of the Kofa Mountains. 

The road was pretty good on this particular drive, so we could take the truck.  Our destination?  The top of the hill far ahead.

Angie was happy to be out on an adventure.

The rocks on the ground here are rather special.  They are scattered remnants of the ancient volcanic material that makes up the Kofa Mountains.  Rhyolite, is mainly red and pink hued, but can be many colored, and is associated with volcanics.

See the circular orb formations in these stones?  They are the primary characteristic of Birdseye Rhyolite.

I cut and ground a few, but I had to stop and take a break while working on this one because it started to smile and then began laughing at me.  Took his picture before he stopped laughing.
