Surprise to you and surprise to us… we bypassed Springville and kept going to Zion National Park! What an upgrade! We’re at Zion River Camp Resort and it is an oasis in the desert. Beautiful sites all with a view of the enormous rock formations of Zion National Park. Bill woke up extra early and got the bug to get moving again, so we were so far ahead of schedule, that we decided to get the chance to see some of the canyon parks. We plan to see Zion and Bryce tomorrow morning and then continue the 200 miles or so to our camp in Vegas.

What an eerie experience going from a Montana lake to a desert canyon in one day. As the mountains became hills (always with the rockies in the distance to the east), the ground became more dry, arid, clay and red clay. The scrub and sage brush became more dominant. It was a windy drive with the most bugs we’ve run into yet (literally).

Salt Lake City, set around The Great Salt Lake which is landlocked by mountains at a high elevation (kinda like a crater), is huge. The residential areas spread out around the edges and up into the hills of the mountains. It fascinating, but boy was there heavy traffic at non-rush hour time. Angie was pretty tuckered out and wasn’t sure she liked the temperature getting warmer and warmer. It’s in the 90’s now and we are resting in the air conditioning and will venture out to walk the campground as it cools down.
