Trekkin to New Mexico

This morning we left West Texas and headed west again.

As shown on our Garmin, I-10 took us right up alongside the Rio Grande with Mexico on the other side.  (the lightly shaded area on the left is Mexico).

It was a thrill to see the Rio Grande and Mexico.

Pretty soon we drove the narrow and busy section between two cities, one American and the other Mexican.  This is El Paso, Texas…

…and this is Chihuahua, Mexico.

A little farther down the highway, after we crossed into New Mexico, all traffic was diverted into a checkpoint where everyone was asked their citizenship and if they had any other passengers other than could be seen (checkpoint shown in mirror).  Cars were also sniffed by a law enforcement dog.

Angie tried to play tough and bark at him.  I told her that was a bad choice, LOL.

And then, the “Land of Enchantment” opened its arms to us.

So, we pulled into a campground in Deming and immediately had to change into t-shirts.  This is the view from our spot.

And this is the view on the other side.  There is a wonderful warm wind blowing.  We just saw a tumbleweed and got embarassingly excited about it, LOL.

The campground is called Lo-Hi RV Park and is owned by a group of single (widowed/divorced/unmarried) RVers and this is their HQ.  They meet up here and travel all over, then split up and meet up again, kinda neat.

I was thrilled to see this Labyrinth and had to drag Angie to walk it.  She kept trying to cheat and hop the lines, LOL.  All along the paths are special rocks, trinkets, lawn art, cute things that make you think.  I’ve walked a few Labyrinths in my day, this was really special.

Was even more silly over this guy.  Saw him dash as we pulled in.  Didn’t get my camera out in time.  After we registered for our two nights here and came out to the rig, he re-appeared and I snapped a shot just before he ducked behind a yucca!

Tomorrow, we rest, get caught up on things, and hit Wally-World for supplies.  Rockhound State Park is nearby.  You don’t think we could resist a trip there, do you?
