While We Were Slacking…

Angie has made herself at home here at Bass Lake RV Campground in Dillon, SC.  We’re about an hour west of Myrtle Beach and the weather, up until about a week ago was wonderful.  What makes this campground so good is the people.  Owners Guy and Julie are wonderful to be around.  Debbie in the office is too cool and also gives a mean haircut!  Residents look out for one another and are always in good cheer.  It’s been a great place to hang out between holiday visits with family members.

We really thought we were gonna escape the frigid PA winter temps… but alas, we are on our second blast of arctic air and have been forced to deal with winter RV life.  Not so bad, now that we have gotten through the newest phase of our learning curve…

Nights in the teens (F) usually mean unhooking your city water and running on your self-contained fresh water tank, but here, because temps get above freezing during the day, we can leave our water running at a trickle all night and avoid freezing up.  We are going through propane like there’s no tomorrow running our furnace.  Thank goodness our little Cougar has a polar package which means that the undercarriage is sealed and insulated.  Ambient heat from the inside keeps things warm enough.  We have been supplementing with a tiny electric heater that helps out some.  Everything takes longer to do in winter camping life, but we still manage pretty well.  We’re looking forward to heading north to Washington DC for two nights over Christmas to see Chris, Michelle, Tom and Scott.  (gonna still miss Chaddy though)

Our little darling has made friends with Henry, a two year old lab/beagle mix.  He’s very playful and full of beans.  For some dog on dog action, check out this vid.

We’ve been considering what to do in the future… especially with the holidays.  I’m missing my boys something terrible, and it just doesn’t seem like Christmas not being around them.  We’re thinking of a possible future of getting a small place back in PA somewhere near them to spend the holidays and then go back out on the road the rest of the year.  We’ll see how this plan develops…
