We had a wonderful two days with Chris and Michelle touring Yellowstone. We were thrilled to see a coyote and a grizzly bear the first day while touring the South Loop, but couldn’t get my camera out in time to get pics. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera the second day, when we toured the north loop. It was a pleasure to be able to take in the park while Chris drove in their rental car with Michelle riding shotgun and the three of us (including Angie) in the back seat. Much more maneuverable. The terrain in that portion is quite different. Large caverns and mountains made the drive exciting and picturesque. We stopped at Mammoth Hot Springs to play catch with a nerf football and got some ice cream. There was a prairie dog town in the middle of town. Angie tried to chase them, only to have them pop up at another entrance in such a playful manner. Large Magpies with their black and white plumage hopped around the tiny town. The background was incredible with hills of terraced Yellowstone hot springs and basins on one side, and the tree dotted hills (mountains?) on the other. What diverse topography Yellowstone has.
We had a tire blowout in Cody, WY. The car behind us stopped and had a phonebook with them and called their tire place for us who came out to help us. Amazing how four other cars stopped to ask us if we needed help. Such kind people in Cody, WY area.
As we parted with Chris and Michelle this morning, we headed south for Ashton, ID. Went just a little further and got four sexy, new 10-ply tires for our RV. Boy, does it ride great now! We will be touring the Grand Tetons from here and will be spending a week here. We have an appointment in Missoula, MT at a Keystone dealership recommended by rock friends, Tom and Debby (Montanamuscrats), on the 4th of August to fix the collateral damage from the blowout. We’ll be fine. (now that we have new tires we will, LOL)
One of the things we are very glad we did was to join three RV discount clubs: Happy Campers, Campclub USA and Passport America. It was roughly $44 to join each and they have saved us 50% on our campground rates at many places where we’ve stayed. It takes a little work to plan, but the savings are worth the effort.
Another is getting a Garmin that coordinates with Audible.com. We’re almost finished World Without End and will be downloading another book soon. Love the way the book stops while Garmin gives directions, and then picks up again. Does anyone have any suggestions for our next audible book????
Getting the National Parks Pass was another. Such a great way to support the parks and save on admission fees too.
There are many more things we are glad for, but just can’t think of them now. The peaceful Aspen trees are calling and Angie wants to take a walk around the golf course again. 🙂
