Teddy

The kind gentleman who manages the park here in Quadna came by and brought a cigar box full of agates for us to look at. His name is Teddy and the agates belonged to his grandson who passed away 8 years ago. He drowned in Lake Superior while wind surfing. He was 25. His grandson had two tumblers and made picture frames with agates attached and sold them at resorts in the area. Bill asked if Teddy would like us to make him a pendant out of one of the rocks and Teddy said yes. It was so sweet and I said I would be honored to do so.

I wrapped one of his tumbled agates in copper last night (sorry, no pic). Hard as I tried, it still didn’t look masculine enough, so I made a swirly and gave it to him for his daughter, the mother of the beloved young man who loved agates.

So, this morning, Billy and I chose an unpolished good sized agate chunk to hand cab from the tattered cigar box, and Bill went to work. Here is the finished stone. We glued on a silver Aanraku bail.

Teddy was thrilled with it.  He hugged me and shook Bill’s hand.  We were very pleased with how it turned out and happy to have been able to create a special memento for some special people.  🙂
