Well, we just survived our first tornado in a camper. One moment I was joking with a neighbor, then a split second of hearing roaring winds, and then Bill and I were fighting the wind to put the awning up to keep it from being ripped off. We succeeded, luckily. Others here weren’t so lucky.
From inside the camper we heard pounding rain and branches hit our roof, then the power went out. We watched the creek rise. I lit the gas stove and heated up some of last night’s beef stew. Luckily the refrigerator runs on propane.

The rain ceased after about an hour. When we emerged, a run-off stream was running through our campsite. The neighbor I had been joking with had a flattened tent with water running through their site. Another was the same. But, we all felt terrible for the new neighbor who just got in… two trees had fallen over their site- one on top of the tent and the other on their car.
We drove around a little on what roads were passable (not all are) and surveyed the damage here and were shocked. But… we still have our sense of humors, and are incredibly grateful to be safe and well. Angie played it all as cool as a cucumber. 🙂
