Last Piece…

of furniture just left our house on Heather Lane… this is a big moment. I look back on the furniture that has gone to others and feel that those pieces have done us proud, now it is time for someone else to enjoy them. I think about the big family meals on Bill’s big table, the morning breakfasts and time spent at the kitchen table, Bill at his grandfather’s desk and his computer desk in quiet concentration, the birdnests and family items we displayed in the wall unit.

The wall unit was the last piece of furniture to leave. It was a three-piece unit with cupboards on the bottom and lighted glass shelves on top. Too big to store and too big to move for us. So a lady and her friend came and bought them. They will split them up between them and use them in their homes. Bill’s birdnest collection (he had a penchant for finding them on walks) was given to his best friend Michael, who always admired them. Over the years, the displays changed. From Bill’s family items, to our blended family items, to items we found in nature, to crystal with beautiful tumbled stones inside. This was indeed a landmark day.

Soon we will make our way to South Dakota to establish residency with a service that caters to nomadic RVers. They will handle our driver’s license and vehicle registrations and collect and forward our mail to us. It will be a trip full of fun and excitement as the reality of what we are doing comes closer.
